about US

There’s a significant disconnect between the generic advice available online about breaking into investment banking, and the reality of how the industry truly operates behind the scenes.

Break into Banking was created to provide real-world insights from someone who has been on both sides of the interview table.

Our mission is to empower aspiring finance professionals—regardless of their background—by providing the tools, guidance, and insider knowledge needed to break into the competitive world of investment banking.

My investment banking journey

Applications sent

My story starts in West London from a working class, state school background. A school described by the Daily Mail as a ‘criminal factory’.

I wanted to change my life, and like a lot of people across the UK, I saw a career in the City as my ticket.

So I worked hard and got into LSE to study Philosophy & Economics. But the hard part was just beginning.

100+ investment bank applications sent, and after dozens of rejections, I got 4 spring week offers across IBD and Sales & Trading. I completed a summer internship in Global Markets at Deutsche Bank and voilà – I was now a real life investment banker.

Years of investment banking experience

I joined the DB Quantitative Investment Solutions desk in London as a Structurer, developing and marketing innovative systematic trading strategies to global institutional clients. From fundamental stock analysis to structuring complex multi-asset trades, I became experienced across a broad asset spectrum.

As I grew in seniority, I led interviews for spring and summer internship applications and more recently, assessed dozens of 1st-round video interviews.

Reason why I started Break into Banking

So why did I start Break into Banking?

A lot of good work has been done to expand access to investment banking.

But, I felt that more should be done by people with 5+ years of industry experience – enough time on the inside to really understand how the industry works, and to have had experience on the other side of the interview table.

I wanted to give young people, no matter their background, the knowledge and the tools that I wish I had to break into banking.
